Treading Water...

My words on this one will be incomplete...there is simply no adequate way for me to express the experience.  Last Thursday through Saturday evening, was one of the most divine encounters of my lifetime.  I believe the Lord is up to something huge...but isn't He always!

For about the last 9 to 12 months, we have been on assignment from the Father working on a project with 12 college students all across the country.  We have been "chatting" about different topics, questions and situations.  Our hope is to produce a product for parents.  After a year of communication, the kids came together for a summit this last weekend.  I had no idea what to expect.  I told our film crew and our board that I had no preconceived idea and no agenda.  Anyone who knows me well knows how difficult that was for me!  As the time for us to meet approached I began to get anxious.  I was counting on the students to show up and engage!

They did much more than that.  The experience was phenomenal...not only did they engage...but they were honest, transparent and real.  But they were mighty.  Mighty individually, but as a group...they had might of another time and place.  Heavenly strength.  They are deep and they are committed.  They love their God and it is not false, it is honest.  Their faith is passionate.  Be encouraged...there is an army on the rise...armed with love, truth, and compassion.  They are the next generation and by His Might, they are a force to be dealt with! I was emotional, speechless, proud, humbled and encouraged by them.

I had an interesting experience just the week before...I was driving my nieces home to Dallas.  So there were three young ladies in the car and my 13 year old son, Jake.  The girls were in the back seat watching a very girly movie and Jake was riding shoot gun with me.  He wanted to play a game on my phone, but I was also listening to a John Bevere audio book.  We decided that we would try to turn the sound off of his game and I would try to continue to listen to my book on my headphones while he played his game.  We were hoping that the only sound that would play through the headphones would be my book...and the strangest thing happened.  I was listening to the book and I could hear his game which was a fighter pilot in the heat of battle.  It was comical in the beginning.  I fought hard to listen passed the battle to John Bevere's book on living an extraordinary life.

Then I heard the Holy Spirit...this is what it is like, life.  There is a battle around us.  We are unaware of the intensity and violence of the fighting, but the battle rages none the less.  We fight to hear truth and be changed by it.  These young people are in the midst of intense battle.  The enemy is after them around every turn.  Sexuality, homosexuality, abortion, drugs, depression, peer pressure, and the fear of failure are a few of his weapons.  The battle for souls and for the witnesses of the faithful rages.  However they are called to and equipped for an extraordinary life!

There were victories won this last weekend.  Victories that will make an eternal difference for the Kingdom.  We were on holy ground and you can rest assured we took our shoes off.

Struggle well, Life Guards!

I love you, Candy

Let the Games Begin!

As I live and breath...I am beside myself excited.  As soon as I stand up from this computer, I am in the car on my way to Vernon, TX to meet my brother-in-law to pick up my two precious nieces. We will be with them for the next week and a half.  I love them and that they love to come to my house.  What is even more precious to me is that I have three darling nieces that live down the street from me and I will have them all together!  My sweet daughter Madi is going to be in heaven and my mighty young man, Jake, is in for the time of his life...and I am delighted.  I am delighted.

And to top it all off, in the morning at 10:00 am a group of 60 young ladies ready to meet with the King will desend on us for Chosen Camp!!  I love little girls.  I love children.  I love teenagers.  And can I tell you that I love them because I choose to?

Just a couple weeks ago we had what my man has named "Fab Friday".  We had 3 nieces, 2 nephews, 1 grandboy, my Jake and Madi and 1 sweet friend...that's 9...of the most wonderful kids in the world stay the night.  We had pizza, threw us some washers, played football, side walk chalked and had some chocolate, of course.  It was a ball...

Can I also tell you that when I imagine that, I think the same thing you think...why on earth?  I'm too tired.  I don't know what to do with them.  I will be exhausted.  I don't "have" to....

Children, teens and really just people... the people God has placed in our lives...they can be exhausting.  But do you know my biggest fear, that those closest to me won't have memories of their relationship with me.  It is not by accident that those who join you at the dinner table are at your  table.  You have something to offer them.  They need us to share with them the journeys the Lord has had us on.  They need to see us laugh.  Doesn't hurt for them to see us cry.  They need our hugs.  They need us to tend to them  We are moms.  We are carved out for just that.  To show the nurturing, tender, compassionate side of our King.

So when I feel tired or overwhelmed..I remember that He has equipped us for every good work.  I remember that we are making memories.  I remember that we are building relationships that will last a life time.  They are precious in His sight and they are precious in mine.

I will rest tomorrow.  I will play today.  Live!

Let the games begin!  Syd and Sam...Here we come!!

Everything changed.

I saw a quote on Twitter recently and I cannot get it off of my mind.  "God has landed on this enemy-occupied world in human form."  C.S. Lewis.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning.  Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it."  John 1:1-5

Have you ever felt "just in the midst"?  I have and as a matter of fact I have just this week.  I don't know why it seems to be a struggle that I face on a regular basis...being overwhelmed by circumstances.  Daily, we hear heartbreaking stories of young people being overcome by temptation or rebellion.  Stories of young children motherless due to drugs or alcoholism.  Young men trying to be fathers when only months ago they were quarterbacking their high school team.  Godly parents doing all they can to draw their teens back into His protective covering.  Life. Life on a daily basis can be so overwhelming.

I figure that it is overwhelming because we are mere humans.  We are dust.  Our best efforts fall short.  Our purest motivations are bathed in selfishness.  Our sight is too near.  Our hearts have been broken.  Our minds are a battlefield.  Our strength fades and our faith can be fickle.

Yet, "he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust." Psalm 103:14

Isn't it a beautiful thought to think that God...our Maker...the one who the Word says fashioned us from the dirt of the ground and then breathed the breath of life into our lungs.  Made us in His image.  Our God who is near to us. He sees the situations that scare us.  He knows the relationships that break our hearts and drain our hope.  He notices not only our tears, but our sighs and the loss of the twinkle in our eyes.  He knows when we will cry "Mercy"  before we form the word with our lips.  Him.  He set His perfect, most Holy, unscathed, pure, strong, feet...His feet.  In our dirt.

I love Him so.  I love that there is no circumstance that makes Him cringe.  He never says, impossible.  He never thinks it's hopeless.  He never feels fear and He will never know defeat.  He is the Great I Am.  He is the King of Kings and the One and and Only.  He is ours!  Our King...our Father.  Our answer.

"The Word became flesh and make his dwelling among us.  We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."  John 1:14

The next time I feel overwhelmed by my circumstance in all of my mere human-ness, I will remember that God has landed here.  When He did, the demons took notice.  Nature bowed.  Our circumstances must obey Him.  Everything changed.

Evolution Complete...Impossible.

I was watching the news this morning and the story was about a national leader stating that he has changed his mind about a moral issue.  The caption on the screen read, Evolution Complete.

That caption has rolled around in my spirit all morning.  I began to ask the Lord about it and I have come to only one conclusion.  Regarding righteousness and morality...evolution is impossible.  Righteousness and morality are in no way tied to my opinions or the evolution thereof.  We as human beings are flawed and in need not only of a Savior but a King.  Among us there is none righteous, no not one...only the One and Only.  We are fickle...He is not.

It is He who establishes morality.  There is truly a standard of right and wrong, not because He is a punisher...but because He came so that we could have life and have it to the fullest. He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.   He is the author and profecter of our faith and all good things come from Him.  He is love.

How is it that our society has concluded that love means standing by as people race off the cliff?  At best, in silence and at worst encouraging them by justifying behaviors that directly violate the standards set by the Father?  They are not negotiable or evolving.  They are grounded in hope and truth for our good and not our destruction.  One is not loving and kind to stand idly by and watch another plummet to destruction.  Lovingly reach out your hand of support and love and speak truth...for the reknown of the Father and His love for humanity.

He designed the game.  He wrote the rule book.  He knows the final score.  He knows the way that it is best played.  He knows how to teach you to be a home run hitter and a defensive specialist.  He also knows the tricks of our opponent who seeks only our demise.  One is not forced to play the game by the rules but the rules do not change nonetheless.

I thank Him regularly that His thoughts are not my thoughts and His ways are not my ways.  That He is unchanging.  He was the same yesterday, today and forever...in other words He is not evolving.  I need Him to be higher than me, stronger than me, wiser than me to a degree of which there are no words to describe.

A rebellious teen does not cause moral evolution to occur.  A person caught in the trap of addiction does not cause moral evolution  to occur.  A majority rule or a constitutional amendment do not cause morality or righteousness to evolve.

The truth remains true even if every one us raise our hand in a vote opposing it.  Because HE is the truth and He is unchanging.  He loves us in our mess and captivity...but He has already set us free.  If you are His, any bondage you perceive yourself to be in is a facade.  The enemy has no power over you.  He has giving you hope and freedom.  He is unchanging and He loves us.

He does not evolve...He simply...IS.

Lord today I just want to pour out my heart to You.  There are so many situations that I am thinking about today.  So many different things that I am presenting to You that I am needing answers for...I will soon visit with a precious young lady who is off the path.  I will be a part of my oldest son, Tanner's, weeding in just 11 days.  My kids are involved in sports.  My husband is busy working and coaching and tending to us.  We have a big project coming up this summer.  I am asking You, Lord, to allow me to be utilized by You in the greatest measure possible to further your Kingdom.  I have a bleach stain on my carpet and moths in my garage.  The laundry is piling up and I am trying to organize summer events for my kids.  I am being mom, wife, GiGi, sister, daughter, friend and co-worker day in and day out.  There are still literally 10 things left on my to do list.

But right now...I want to be with You.  I want to know your peace.  I want to experience a touch from the tender hand of the Most High.  I want to hear You whisper, not answers to questions or solutions to my situations...but encouraging love words.  I want You to remind me of the whys...Why do You love me? Why do I love You?  Why do I trust You?  Why have You chosen us?  Why all this beauty?  Why so much difficulty?  Why the giftings You have given me?  Why the weaknesses in me that are so obvious to me?  Why the sweet whispers in the earliest moments of the morning?  Why sometimes the silence in the darkest ticks of the midnight clock?  Why sicknesses?  Why rebellion?  Why beautiful sunrises and slobbery baby kisses?

Lord in all of the whys...I see You. I thank you Father that there is power and victory in the word of our testimony.  I've decided that my life journey is just that...my life journey.  On my way to the laundry room, I'm not going to trip into the hamper and find myself immediately on the road to Damascus standing in Paul's shoes.  I won't face the Sanhedrin.  I won't be imprisoned or stoned.  I won't be a contributor to the Holy Book or be martyred for your glory.  But I have a calling nonetheless...to love my family, to be a godly wife and mother...to let you use the circumstances of my life to mold me into the person you want me to be...to tell others of your marvelous greatness...to love you well.

The answer to all of my whys is that I am desperate for You and You passionately pursue me.  I love you.  Change me.

CareNet Banquet Speech 2012

Psalm 102:18
“Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD.”

Let THIS be written…

What is the “this”?
The psalmist has just proclaimed…

The Lord sits enthroned forever…
His renown endures for all generations
He will rise and have compassion
The nations will revere the Lord and all the kings will give Him glory
He WILL respond to the prayer of the destitute

WRITE THIS DOWN SO A FUTURE GENERATION, THAT PEOPLE NOT YET CREATED WILL PRAISE THE LORD!

We want to write some things down….we so that we will remember…so that our children for generations will know…

The Lord sits on HIS throne forever!
His renown endures and HE rises to show us compassion
Nations revere Him and kings will bow and give Him the glory He deserves
And OH, How he responds to the prayers of the destitute.

This is OUR GOD…write it down…remember!
The Israelites wrote things down to remind themselves and their children of the faithfulness and provision of the Father.

Has He been faithful to CareNet and the wonderful people we have the opportunity to serve!

Our ministry is 3 fold, we serve men, women, teens and families before they find themselves in an unplanned pregnancy, we minister to people in the midst of their crisis, and then we continue to journey with them following that situation.  All of our services are free of charge and confidential.  We don’t receive any state or federal funding…all of our support comes from churches, private grants and from individuals like you.

Our abstinence education has been a strong presence in our community since we opened in 1988…something that may surprise you is that Charise Nesbitt had begun giving abstinence presentations in the area before the center ever opened its doors…so abstinence education was the very first service ever offered.  We added a new component to our message in 2004 with our mentoring programs.  We have seen our mentoring programs literally explode!  We now offer 6 different mentoring programs; Chosen, Squires, Pearls, Bravehearts, True U and Lead Council, serving young people ages 8 through their sophomore year in college!  There are no words to adequately communicate the blessing of the Lord and the amazing support of many of you that have allowed us to develop and produce 2 of the curricula that we use...Chosen was completed last year.  We are thrilled about this because now other pregnancy centers and churches can take our curriculum and use it to share Christ and raise a standard in their own community.  We believe that our young people are not only capable but called to live a life of purity.  They can make an impact…they can be influencers.

It is written “When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him.” Isaiah 59:18-20

Write this down…. over 1,500 young people were impacted by our mentoring programs in 2011.

It is our privilege to serve people who find themselves in an unplanned pregnancy.  In 2011, we performed 651 positive pregnancy tests. We talk to our clients about parenting and adoption as positive options for both them and their babies.  If a woman is considering an abortion, we talk with her about the physical, emotional and spiritual risks associated with that decision.  We also offer her an ultrasound free of charge.  We hear many discussions about being pro-life or pro-choice, particularly in election years like this one.  A couple things I would like you to notice…one is we do not debate that a baby in its mother’s womb is alive.  It is… we can see amazing, life changing images thanks to the technology of ultrasound.  No doubt, it is a living human baby.  The second thing I want you to notice are the arguments made in support of abortion…things like, it’s a woman’s right to choose, you can’t legislate morality, stay out of the bedroom, it is her body…  I can tell you that over the past 15 years I have sat in that very sacred, emotional, vulnerable place of decision with many, many women making the decision of life or death.  She never says, it’s my body, my right as a woman…those are political, shallow statements.  Their arguments sound more like…I don’t feel like I have any other option…my parents will kick me out…I’m headed to college in the fall…I have no money…my boyfriend will leave me.  It is usually 1 thing that makes her feel abortion is her only option.  It is our opinion that the loving thing to do is to walk beside her…help her with that thing pushing her down the path of destruction… give her the opportunity to choose life.

It is written, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:9-11

Write this down….In 2011, 103 pregnant women came through our doors seeking an abortion, and of those 100 chose life!

We believe that when we ask a woman or family to choose life for their baby…then we should offer them practical help and information.  We have programs to prepare them for labor and delivery and to take that sweet baby home…those would be our Baby Safety Class, our Child Birth classes, parenting classes, and classes for dads…all of these programs are taught by certified professionals and local doctors.  We have benevolence rooms at all three of our offices where a mom, dad, grandparent or guardian can come and receive diapers, formula, clothes and furniture free of charge each month.  We offer Bible studies and one-on-one mentoring as well.  CareNet is a provider of Twogether in Texas pre-marital classes.  Also, this year we added a class for women who have placed their babies for adoption called The Gift of a Lifetime.  Women are able to come and share their thoughts and emotions surrounding that decision and receive hope and comfort from those who have had a similar experience.  New Dawn, our post abortion ministry is strong and serving women who have experienced the pain of abortion.  The Lord does an incredible work of healing and restoration through that study.

Our interaction with our clients is not a thirty minute pregnancy test, but our hope is to journey with them and build authentic relationships that are long term and helpful.

It is written, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:19-21

Write this downIn 2011, CareNet had over 9,800 client interactions and since 1988, we have had the honor of serving over 75,000!

CareNet is a place where people from all ethnic groups, age groups and walks of life come for practical assistance and support.  We are able to provide mentoring programs, free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, resources, financial support, education, and Bible studies.  But you know, what they are searching for is freedom.  To be filled in the empty places.  To be loved and tended to.  To be rescued.   You see those of us not caught in the same traps philosophy about what the best outcome might be.  Those caught in the trap, simply want out.

It is written…” The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,[a] 2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor” Isaiah 61:1-2

Write this down…in 2011, through the ministry of CareNet,  187 people received Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Preparing for our banquet, and I give many speeches each year, the banquet speech is always the most difficult for me.  Because you are our family, because you stand with us in this great work that the Lord has called all of us to and I want so badly for you to see in full color all that the Lord has done over the last year.  So I plan, and pray, and think and plan, and feel anxious…and on and on for a few weeks before the banquet.

Well, Tuesday morning, I have my worship music on and I am praying in the fashion that is most comfortable to me which is…music loud and walking around my house praying out loud.  And now Tuesday morning I am preparing to write this speech…so we are down to it…so image me, pacing, praying and basically reminding the Lord of what is on the agenda today.  And I’m saying you know Lord the theme this year is Write this down…I would really like something along those lines…you know write this down…written, pen, paper…I’m ready . I’m listening…

And so I start to pray for the ministry… and here is what I journaled…
“Lord, this morning while I prepare to write this speech…staff and volunteers at all of our locations are on divine appointment.  Everyone who comes through our doors, whether for pregnancy tests or mentoring or for things…Lord, there is an evil assignment for them.  The enemy has evil planned for them.  Lord, thank you that this is a battlefield and we are often on what I believe to be the front lines…but thank you Lord that we don’t see the fatigues that we wear, that might be scary to us Lord.  Thank you too God that we don’t see the violence of battle that takes place around us and in the heavenlies.  We wear pretty clothes and we sit in a nice room and we see a hurting precious one in front of us…we don’t hear the enemies accusations or feel the fiery darts rush passed us…the battle wages all around us…and we sit in the shelter of the most High…armed for battle.”

And then it hit me…like a load of bricks.  We ARE armed for battle and we have one weapon…it is our sword…the very WRITTEN WORD of Almighty God.

The weapon that He uses to defeat the enemy is words…written and spoken.  Wonderful, life-giving words, covered in love and compassion…He is slow to anger and abounding in love.  He is the beginning and the end…he is the everlasting father, the great I am, the Lion of Judah and the coming King.  He is the victor, He is our Savior and His name is Jesus.  The love story of a King who came to a foreign land to rescue a bride and have the wedding feast of all eternity…

It is written…”Therefore, I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her.”  Hosea 2:14

Write this down…He wins, we win and oh how he loves us!

Proud Moments...

Well we had one of those "big event" moments in the Gibbs household this week.  Our middle son, Jake, turned 13!  As a mom, that feels something like preparing to climb Mount Everest, enjoying a warm cup of coffee on a cold winter morning, and getting kicked in the stomach...all at once!  I am one of those parents who have enjoyed every stage of life my kids are in.  I love to be with them.  We laugh together, cry together.  We have deep conversations and dance in the front room.  They are all so precious to me.

This year for Jake, we asked our closest friends and family to write him notes of encouragement.  Each of those notes were placed in their own balloon and he spent the day popping balloons and being encouraged by the people he loves and admires.  That really made me think.  I am so grateful for the people of character that my kids are so privileged to be surrounded by.  Coaches, teachers, aunts, uncles grandparents, siblings and friends...all people who would lend a helping hand in an instant and who would also encourage and not "step in" if that is what would be best for developing strength.  I thanked my God for this blessing.

Then I began to think about parenting and what a high calling that is.  For many years, I have been convinced that we must be purposeful in our parenting.  That strong, productive, spiritually powerful adults don't happen by accident, but are the outcome of influential people investing in them years prior.  I believe that we have to be diligent about being with our kids and spending not just quality time, but large quantities of time together as well.

This Tuesday night, as I stood and watched my son, a brand new teenager sleep...some things really struck my heart in tender places.  All of a sudden, in a new and profound way, I realized that I am the woman that God chose to teach this amazing young man how his own wife someday should treat him.  That I am the woman that God chose to teach him how a princess of the Most High should be adored and tended to.  That his dad will teach him to be a man of valor, honor and courage...to fight the good fight.  And as I stood there, to my knees I went.  I am honored to be that woman!

Here is Jake with the West Point wrestling coaches.

A few of the things I want my son to know:
  • I want you to chase hard after Christ!  Don't you believe the lie that the life of a believer is boring or easy.  It is full of adventure and challenge and He has equipped you for every good work that He has prepared in advance for you!  You finish this life with dirt under your finger nails, sweat on your brow and trying to catch your breathe!  He is LIFE!  Go hard after Him!
  • Be a strong man of great courage.  I want you to keep yourself pure and set apart for the wonderful bride God has chosen for you.  Don't give one piece of your warrior's heart to a girl who has nothing vested in it.  You, my son, are too valuable.  Your character and your hopes and dreams will come at a high cost to you.  You will lay down your life each day to follow Him on this great adventure.  Only one woman, one who is journeying the same kind of road, will be worthy of a piece of something with such a high cost.  She will have earned it when she stands beside my son and vows to fight hard as your life's partner.
  • Be different.  You are a leader.  Be confident in who you are!
  • You know that greatness thing?  You are called to it.  You can do all things through Christ who gives you strenth.  Change your world!  Win them to the Kingdom.
  • You, son, are one of the greatest, most precious gifts I give to this world.  I am committed to you.  Not to be here to punish you when you make a mistake...though you will make some.  But to spend my energy, wisdom, emotion and prayers to partner with our Father and your dad to mold you into the mighty man I know you are created to be.
As I tucked in a 12 year old and anticipated waking up a teenager...I treasured the thought of mid-night dates, having him lay his head in my lap while we watch a good movie, cheering like a crazy momma at sporting events, and peeking in on him as he spends time with the Lord early in the mornings...I was grateful and blessed.  Still felt like a little short of breathe like I'd been kicked in the stomach, but confident in the man He is becoming!

Thanks for letting me take a little detour today.  Blessings and love to you!

Managing emotion

One discussion that takes place in my home on a regular basis is time management.  Questions like...how can we fit that in?  Should we fit that in?  You go with Madi and I'll go with Jake.  Can you be home by 6:00 so I can leave by 6:15?  Can we attend that banquet?  We have a birthday party Friday night and Saturday afternoon.  Will we go to church Saturday night or Sunday morning?  When was the last time we talked about something other than our schedules and how tired  we are???

Maybe that sounds like a foreign language to you, but I can ask and answer most of those questions in my sleep they are so common in our home.  Tonight was one of those evenings, when I thought I must have "the mono" as one of my dear friends would say.  I sometimes get so tired and overwhelmed that even washing my face and putting on my pajamas can seem insurmountable.  How can I get it all done?

This evening as I spent several hours working on the long list of tasks that weren't yet checked off as of 7:00 pm...In the back of my mind, I was complaining yet again to the Father, "please help me manage my time." And then that still small voice that is so familiar, and particularly in those overwhelmingly busy times, is also too often out-shouted and over looked, pierced through my chaos, "Time management isn't the issue...managing the way you spend your emotion is."

That has rattled my cage.  Emotion management...as I have pondered that, it makes perfect sense.  His ways are not our ways and His thoughts aren't our thoughts.  They certainly aren't mine.  But when He speaks, He makes all things clear.  My time never increases or decrease, there is never more or less.  Always the same, 24 hours each day.  But the way I spend my emotion during those 24 hours changes every day.

I think what the Lord may be speaking to me is that our time is so precious and valuable...that we must consider, what moments and with whom we will spend our emotion?  Today, for instance..I had breakfast with Jake and Madi.  Texted Tanner and Whitney and several friends, family and co-workers.  Spoke to my sister on the phone.  Attended the all A lunch with Jake and his friends.  Had lunch with a precious friend.  Laughed with my kids.  Cried in worship and listened to some incredible teaching via podcast.  Aside from those things, I did many task oriented duties and was somewhat productive.  As I write this blog now, I am tired...both body and spirit.

But my perspective has changed...

A few hours ago, I was overwhelmed to the point of tears because it seemed like there wasn't enough time in this day.  But after a simple statement from the Almighty, things shifted.   My day today moved quickly and there were items unchecked on my to-do list.  But I am very pleased with the way I spent my emotion...with people I love who make me laugh and keep me grounded.  With my God who multiplies all our resources, including our time, to accomplish His calling.

Tomorrow I will think less about my time and more about my emotion.  I intend to manage it and spend it wisely.  I pray the same for you.

Encouragement...

I am thrilled about our latest assignment from the Father!  I can't give you all the details, but if you ever doubt or fear the next generation and their spiritual foundations...you will be encouraged.  We are working with some amazing college students and I wanted to share an exchange with you.

Here is my post to them:
I hope you are having a great week! As soon as I type these questions, I am going into a prayer time for you! Praying that the Lord would give you favor and influence. That you would be reminded of the power of the Holy Spirit in you and that His Word will be alive and active in you. I know that many of you are looking into new possibilities. Some are looking for internships, looking to become a member of a cast and preparing to start your career. I am thankful that the Word tells us that He goes before and behind us. He makes the road rise up to meet us. I am praying that you will know beyond a shadow of a doubt where He is directing you. That He would give you perfect peace. Go get 'em!!

Okay, this week's question:
I am working with a high school student who is really struggling. She comes from a good family and has involved, precious parents. She is in a season of full on rebellion. She has been dating a high-school drop out, drug dealer who may have another girl pregnant...behind her parents' backs. He was arrested for drug possession and weapons. She still wants to be with him. Her parents are desperate. How do we reach her?

Here are a couple of their responses...WOW!
1) That's a rough situation, gosh I would hate to be going through some junk like that. If I were her parents this is how I would reach her ( I'm gonna write this as if I were her dad)... Honey I know you know that me and your mom love you more than anything in the world, we want you to be the happiest you could possibly be and we have all your best interest at heart! Now this decision your making by wanting to stay with this guy is not the one you want to make. Why would me and your family and everyone who loves you the most try to lead you down a path that would not be the absolute best for you! I can't sit here and support you in something that I know will hurt the most precious thing to my heart! I'll scream, cry and pray at and for you until you realize what your doing isn't gonna be good for you. Now i don't want to control you or make you do anything but if you keep thinking the way you are right now it's going to get very uncomfortable for you, I'm going to have to take away everything that could aid you in hurting yourself, whether it's your phone, car, or money I will no longer provide that for you as long as your heart is set the way it is. You are always welcome here where you will never get treated bad and will be provided for but your boyfriend is not allowed here. If you choose to go your own way I won't stop you from leaving and even though it would break every one's heart that truly does love you it doesn't mean that any time you ever want back you will be welcomed back with open arms. But please don't take that road that everyone who cares about you is promising you will lead to horrible horrible pain. I hope that you don't make any life changing choices that you can never get rid of. Please don't resent us for responding to your path you are choosing the way we have but you have to know that it is because we love you and want you to be the best and happiest you can be. Now read the story of the prodigal son and I want you to realize that I'm gonna be the same way to you as his dad was in the parable. I'm fighting as hard as I can for you but if you want to go eat with the pigs I'm so sorry for you but I'm here always and forever for you! I love you! And if you want more examples of people that have done what your choosing and regret it I can go on for days. Goodness I want you to be happy so bad I can't stand it!
Love dad

2) I wish I could say something that would be really helpful in this girls situation but me and my parents are in a similar situation with my sisters. I can tell you the two things I've learned one: the power of prayer always works! be SPECIFIC with Jesus. Make her your "sun stand still" (sun stand still comes from a book and its about Joshua asking God to make the sun stop in the middle of the sky and delay its going down for a full day. "There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the LORD listened to a human being. Surely the LORD was fighting for Israel!") <---that's the power we have with the same prayers.
The next I would do is to tell the parents to cling to Psalm 34:18.

I hope that encourages you...it certainly does me!  Thank you God that you are strong in our weakness and we want you to be Mighty among us!!!

You are CHOSEN!

I asked 15 college students the question, "If you had 15 minutes to speak to a group of middle school students, what would your topic be?"  Though they stated it in different ways, without exceptions they answered...their identity.  All of the college students described how insecurity about who they were designed to be and trying to "fit in" were their biggest struggles as middle school students.

Certainly, as I have interacted with this age group fairly extensively, I would agree 100%.  The ages  8 - 12 years are some of the most difficult in a person's lifetime.  We cannot escape our surroundings.  The name of the game in middle school is...make fun of someone before someone makes fun of you.  It is a hostile, dog eat dog environment.

Strengthening our character is no different then strengthening our bodies.  It takes time, focus and dedication.  We start with light weight and increase the amount we can handle as we commit to the process and our body begins to respond.  The same process is necessary as we seek to strengthen our character.

Several years ago, the Lord put on our hearts at CareNet the desire to strengthen the next generations of young people.  They are being eaten alive...drugs, alcohol, sex, bullying, technology, and the culture are literally overpowering them.  Overpowering Christian kids and unsaved kids alike.  Overpowering our kids who have the Spirit of Almighty God living on the inside of them.  The same Holy Spirit who parted the Red Sea and raised Jesus from the dead is theirs to give them direction, ways of escape and victory...yet, the culture, peer pressure and sin seems to be the tag line of the day.

What were we going to do about?  Not take it laying down, that's for sure!  We began offering several mentoring programs...one of which I am thrilled to introduce you to today!

CHOSEN is a Bible study curriculum for young ladies ages 8-12 years.  The curriculum is 26 lessons in all and is broken up into 4 sessions.  The curriculum comes with a Leader's guide which contains all the lessons, explanation of activities that help to bring each topic to life, and a letter to give to the girls' moms each week.  We want parents to know what the girls are learning so that they can have valuable discussion with their own girl about the different subjects.  Also, we have a journal for the girls to use throughout all 26 lessons.  The hope is that by the end of week 26, she will be having her own powerful and personal quiet time with the Father each day.  An amazing gift from the Father, are the 4 posters contained in the journal.  The posters are prints of four original paintings done by Ginger Nelson.  They are divinely inspired and covered literally in all of the scripture contained in each session!  The posters serve as reminders to the girls of all they have learned and accomplished.

The lessons are practical and on her level.  We talk about the character qualities that we should have as fruit of the Spirit living in us.  It is the Spirit that gives us the power we need to be more than conquerors through Him who loved us.  So, when you have a friend gossiping about you during lunch...how would the Father want you to respond?  Even at 10, we don't have to be ruled by our emotions.  We can be Spirit lead and that is the goal...to see these girls living lives that powerfully, boldly and lovingly reflect the face of our Great King!

We would love nothing more than for you to be connected and involved with us!  If you live in the Amarillo area and would like to sign your daughter or a young lady in your life up to participate in our next CHOSEN session...you can contact us by visiting our website www.youarechosen.org or calling our office at 806-354-2288.  We would love the opportunity to journey with her!  OR you can purchase the CHOSEN curriculum and lead your own sweet group of girls through the program.  It is easy to use and we are happy to help you in any way we can.  I believe that the next generation can change the world...but we must prepare them on purpose!  It won't happen by accident.

Please contact us today to sign your girl up or to start a group of your own.  Also, please let your friends know about the program.  I would love for you to follow us on twitter @CandyKGibbs and post us on your twitter or facebook account.  For all of you Pinterest addicted, you can pin us there too!

I am so thankful for the opportunity the Lord has given us with these precious girls...every time I stand in front of them and look out at their sweet, innocent faces...I am reminded that in our weakness, He is strong!!  Our enemy better look out, because oh the mighty warriors for the Kingdom that I serve!

All my love to you!! To you be all glory, King Jesus!

Contact us today and please spread the word!

Sanctity of Life Sunday 2012

Hello All! Happy New Year to you! I am so excited and encouraged about 2012! My prayer for you, for CareNet and for our families this year is that the Lord would make us strong: spiritually, emotionally, mentally, relationally and physically. I am asking the Lord to equip us to run the race He has laid out for each of us. That we will all stand in the place He has asked us to stand and together we will see miraculous advancement of His Kingdom.

This Sunday, January 22nd is Sanctity of Life Sunday. Sanctity of Human Life Sunday is a national day to raise awareness about the intrinsic value of human life and the fundamental right to life.

In 1983, President Reagan issued a proclamation creating this special day. It is held on the Sunday in January that falls closest to the day on which the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions were handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 22, 1973.

I recently saw a quote from Christine Caine, "Once you know...you can't un-know."

Pretty profound statement and I think it has great application related to the subject of abortion. Years ago, we debated the issue of when life begins to determine whether or not we were even talking about a baby. Thanks to scientific advancement and ultrasound, we have a window into the sacred sanctuary of the womb and we know what we witness is the life of a baby yet to be born.

I have had the privilege of visiting with many, many women facing all of her options in unplanned pregnancy. As we approach the 2012 election, there are many people voicing their opinions about many issues, one of which being abortion. We hear things like: It's a woman's right. You can't legislate morality. It's her body. Talk about things that are important, like the economy.

I can assure you that when women come into CareNet and they are face to face with the life and death decision of abortion. Her reasons for considering that choice sound nothing like the arguments listed above. She says things like: I have no money and don't know how I will care for a baby. My parents will kick me out. My boyfriend will leave me. I was on my way to college. The fact is that there is "some - thing" making her feel as though abortion is her only option. It is our opinion, that the loving thing to do is to help her with that "thing" so that she can make a positive choice for herself and her child.

It takes courage to journey with and step into a difficult life situation with another. Especially when you may gain nothing...only offer a hand to hold as you gentle guide her to the garment of the gentle, Savior who holds her salvation and redemption.

Fact is we now "know"... it is a baby, we know abortion takes the life of an innocent child, that abortion scars a woman in the most intimate places, that it isn't an answer to a difficult situation but a quick fix that is only a band aid to the real issues and struggles.

If we now cannot "un-know" we are responsible to act.

There is beauty and hope all around us. As Christ-followers, may 2012 be a year when we approach situations and people with eyes wide open. A year that He allows us to see through the chaos and confusion to see the heart of the matter. That we would choose life. Choose hope. Choose Him and help others to do the same.

Bite Size Moments, Please

I am in the place of asking the Lord what He would like my focus to be for the next year.  I have made a practice of doing this each January and I am sure many of you do as well.  I think it is a great idea, to set time aside to seek Him for the whole of the next 12 months.  As I prepare to seek Him for the coming year, I looked back in my journal at what I was talking to him about last January.  I want to include a part of that here:

January 4, 2011
"Lord, I want to confess to you that I once again feel fickle and I am feeling dry and unprepared.  I want to apologize because often times my relationship with You seems somewhat based on circumstances.  I mean that when a situation or project arises I then, more intently, turn my focus toward You.  I spend much of my time regretting that I don't spend more time with You - instead of simply using that time to be with You.  Lord, I am praying that you would make me different, to change me.  I am deliberately turning my focus toward You - to intentionally and passionately seek You.  Please show me Lord how to move into a secure, fulfilled, and anointed place with You..."

If I had taken the same task of examining the upcoming 12 months on July 1, 2011...I confess that my entry for that day would have looked much like the one penned in January.  But I have learned something about myself.  I need to take things in smaller pieces.  The next twelve months, 10 years from now, our retirement account, world politics, the Pacific Ocean, the fate of charitable giving in the United States, the spouses my children will marry....all of those things are so vast and far in the distance, they are hard for me to grasp.  I have trouble gaining a clear perspective on them.  I am not saying that we should be uneducated or short sighted.  I am not saying that we shouldn't consider the big picture and make plans for the future.

But what the Lord has taught me over the last six months...is that He is the "I AM".  He is in this present moment.  He is with me today and today He holds all that I need.  I really can't predict where my relationship with Him will be in 6 months, but I can affect and know where it is today.  I don't know where CareNet or charitable giving with be in 6 months, but He is our provider today and in the months to come.  Today, we are well tended to and our clients receive the love, compassion and truth of Christ everyday.  I don't know who my ten and twelve year olds will marry, but I know the people they are today and the ones the Lord is shaping them into tomorrow.  I can't fathom the depths of the Pacific Ocean, but I felt the sands of the beach between my toes just weeks ago and I sensed His Presence.

Bite sized moments, that's my focus for 2012.  My prayer is that I will ask Him everyday...what is He purpose for today, because His provision is for that purpose.  I am praying for all of us that we would focus on this moment and to fully experience the Great I Am.

I am praying for you what King David penned in Psalm 61.
"May he be enthroned in God's presence forever; appoint your love and faithfulness to protect him." Psalm 61:7

Merry Christmas!

I want to wish you a memorable Christmas!  It is my prayer that you will experience every moment to its fullest.  That you will linger and hold on to each interaction.  Time seems to pass so quickly and we are so busy getting "ready" for Christmas, that we sit down to relax and enjoy just as the last few moments slip by.  Work less this week.  Require yourself to be less perfect and less prepared.  Enjoy the mess of cookie baking and gift wrapping.  Laugh more and plan less.  Listen more and talk less.  Stay up late and watch a good movie with a child snuggled in close.  Get up early and have a cup of coffee with your man.  Spend some time staring at the beauty of a lighted Christmas tree.  Read Luke 2 with new wonder of a Savior who became man to save us.  Enjoy!  I plan to.

Merry Christmas!  Happy Birthday Jesus!

Oh Happy Day!

As you know 2011 has held many ups and downs for the Gibbs family.  But I would like to introduce you to the most precious addition of the year!  This is my grandson, Bracen Cross.  News of Bracen came in January and admittedly some aspects of that announcement were difficult and painful.  I love the Word..."They that sow in tears will reap with songs of joy." Psalm 126:5 This Thanksgiving, we did just that.  I danced in the yard with my nieces and nephews to Oh Happy Day!  And a happy day it was!  We reaped a little joy!

Things were certainly missing, namely two very precious women in my life whom I dearly love.  This was our first Thanksgiving without my mom, but as I enjoyed the beautiful meal prepared by the ladies in our family...I wondered what my momma's banquet table looked like!!?  I loved the thought of Jesus carvin' a big ole turkey.  I think He likely did!  We enjoyed fellowship and games while watching a little football and having yet another piece of pie.  It was a good day.

As is tradition in our family, the girls were up bright and early (well actually still very dark) and the guys were off for their Friday after Thanksgiving hunt!  Of course Bracen enjoyed his first annual day with the boys!

Many changes this year.  But we are blessed and highly favored.  We have much to be thankful for. My family is healthy.  My kids are the delight of my life.  My husband is my best friend.  All of my family is near and precious to me.  I have the best friends.  I love my work.  Christmas is coming.  Christ is on the throne.  I have a new daughter-in-law.  I am a GiGi.  I am thankful.

Through a Child's Eyes

I had the privilege of taking my youngest niece to pre-school this morning.  It had been a long night.  My sister called last evening to say that one of my nieces had broken her arm.  We all immediately snapped into action; picking up kids, getting them tended to, sitting in the ER, calling relatives, waiting on pain meds, being with my sister and brother-in-law.  Crazy night.  This morning I was on car pool duty so Cara could be home with Brylee.  As usually, it seemed like the morning moments flew by until we were completely out of them and running behind!

I had gotten all of the older children dropped off and was headed to town to get Willis (ok Laynee, but she's Willis to me :)) to school.  On the way, I made at least 3 phone calls and had already re-arranged my schedule for the day.  Life and its crazy busy -ness can over take me sometimes.

Just as we hurriedly pulled up to our destination...3 year old Willis said, "Look Aunt Candy at that beautiful bird on the light pole."  Can I tell you that that simple observation by a child changed my day?  Immediately I was reminded of a topic that the Lord and I have covered hundreds of times...enjoy your life.  Lift up your head.  Appreciate the provision and gifts from the hand of the Father.  Breathe fresh air.  Watch children play. Laugh.  Live.

Praying that you notice the bird on your light pole today.

Happy Day!

Today is my anniversary.  I can't believe the speed at which 14 years have flown by.  I remember being 22 and thinking that I was destined to be an "old maid"!  Sure funny to think about now especially since Tanner is almost 20!  The Lord was so precious to me and really began the courtship for me in my heart before I even met Brian.  The Lord was sweet to give me little gifts along the way to remind me that if I would obey Him, He would give me the desires of my heart.  I even somehow knew through His mercy that my husband would have a son.  Tanner was 5 when Brian and I met and I fell in love with both of them.  Since that time, the Lord gave us Jake (12) and Madi (10) and tons of laughter and memories.

I thought it might be fun to share a few things that I love about my man.
10)  He is hilarious and loves to make me laugh.
9)  He throws his socks on the ground...right next to the hamper. :)
8)  He has loved and accepted me, even with all my ugly and heavy baggage.
7)  He is an outdoors man.  He loves to hunt and fish.  He feels most alive in brisk, early mountain mornings.
6)  I can trust him completely.
5)  He is always on my side.
4)  He works hard and is the best provider for our family.
3)  He prays for me and blesses me in the ministry the Lord has called me to.
2)  He is the best dad in the world.  I love to watch him love my kids.
1)  He is my best friend and he "gets" me.

I pray that the Lord will give you the desires of your heart today.  His plans are always better than ours!

Moments...

Moments are so precious to me.

That statement may not have been quite so true for me even May 1st of this year.  When you take inventory of your past, do you notice times in which your perspective shifts completely?  Do you notice seasons when it seems that every area of your life changes?

The year of 2011 will forever mark a season of change in my life.  Beginning in January of this year, we began the biggest project to date for us at CareNet.  We completed the creation of a Bible study curriculum for girls ages 8-12 years called Chosen.  The curriculum consists of 26 weeks of study.  We created DVDs, the curriculum and journals.  It was an incredible undertaking and God showed Himself so faithful. I marveled at the way He brought in many different people with many different talents to contribute to the project.  The whole experience was a lesson to me in the full body of Christ, the strength of the Lord and the favor of His anointing.  We had the time of our lives.

Due to the project, the Lord had called me to a fast.  I fasted much of the first 6 months of the year.  Also, the Lord gave me two passages for the year...Psalm 61 and Psalm 116.  I had spent much time in prayer seeking and praising the Father.  I assumed that my focus and precious times with the Father were related to the Chosen project.  Little did I know what the rest of this year would hold.

One January evening, our 19 year old son came home from college with life changing news.  As we sat in our dimly lit den on a cold winter evening, he told us that his sweet girlfriend was pregnant.  We would become GiGi and Pop to a precious baby in August.  I have served in the pregnancy center ministry for 15 years and purity and honoring the Lord with all that we are, including with our bodies, has been a huge part of our family's core beliefs.  This was difficult news to take in, but serving in the pro-life movement, we knew that the baby would be such a blessing.  We began to deal with the situation and our emotions surrounding it.  Psalm 61:2 became life to me, "...lead me to the rock that is higher than I"  And boy were we seeking that Rock!

Summer soon arrived and we were in the big middle of filming Chosen DVDs.  Kids were out of school and enjoying friends and down time.  The summer of 2011 would be my sister and brother-in-law's 10th anniversary.  Brian and I were set to go on a cruise with them to celebrate.  We spent much time in preparation and there was much excitement in the air!  I looked so forward to a relaxing trip after the big project and just before our sweet grand baby would arrive.  We were ready with school clothes and supplies for Jake and Madi.  The house was clean and all systems were a go.  All that remained was the fun stuff!  The day before we would leave on the cruise my sister, her girls, Madi and I had pedicures! We spent the afternoon packing for the trip and getting the kids all packed to spend the week with my parents, Granddad and Grandmom.  That night, I had a ball with Madi speaking at a slumber party for moms and daughters.  WOW...a full summer preparing for the upcoming week right up until we finally laid down in bed anxious for all that the next days would hold.

Just as we snuggled in to bed, I received a phone call from my dad.  "Something is wrong with your mom and we are on the way to the hospital in an ambulance," I heard my sweet dad say holding back fear.  My sister and I went to the hospital.  My mom had just experienced a heart attack and a massive stroke.  As the days unfolded, it became clear that mom would not survive.  We would spend the week in hospice surrounded by our family and literally a multitude of friends.

My mom's stroke happened on a Friday night.  On Monday, we went to hospice for the remainder of her sweet days on planet Earth.  It was an amazing, grace-filled, sad, beautiful, upsetting few days.  We were with my mom the entire time including all 6 grandchildren; playing, laughing and loving her.  She was never coherent but I am certain she could hear all of the words spoken to her and sense the love and peace in her room.

On Thursday of that week, Tanner called and Whitney was ready to have the baby.  I sat by my mama's bed with my phone on speaker, all our family there, and we listened together as my sweet grandson, Bracen was born.  Lots of tears shed that day.  Tears of joy.  Tears of sadness.  Tears of beginnings.  Tears of loss.  Tears of new life.  Tears over the last moments of one of the most precious people that will ever grace our lives.

On Sunday afternoon, at 4:00 pm, the very time that our plane would have landed returning from our cruise...instead of our returning home from a trip...my mom found her way Home for eternity.

Now on October 21...I can say that I have new perspective.  I understand in a new way Matthew 6:34, "Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own."  I am learning that I can handle today and all that today holds.  Like manna, I can come to the Father and receive enough of His new mercies for today and for today only.  I will have enough to finish off the last of it as I drift off to sleep each evening.  But every morning I must again gather my share of all that He is to be my provision for that day.   I have also learned that things don't always happen the way I hope and bad things happen to all of us.  But He is enough and He will never leave us.  He understands our brokenness and is patient through our season of mourning.

Now I calculate my moments... I understand in a new way that they are fleeting.  I notice the sparkle in Madi's eye when she gets tickled at her cousins.  I take time to linger as Jake tells me about his day before bed.  I look forward to sitting in bed each night and talking over the silly details of the day with my wonderful man.  I treasure all night rocks with the new man in my life, little Bracen.  I laugh as my sweet Tanner and Whitney share texts of daily funnies that they experience.  I enjoy a glass of tea with my sister and cups of coffee and conversation with my friends.

The moments that are most precious to me these days are early morning moments spent with my Father.  Moments when I have opportunity to thank Him for His kindness.  His kindness that insured that we had not left on this trip when everything changed.  His kindness that prepared us for a particular week on the calendar...one that in January was precious to us in preparation and that is now precious in our memory for an unexpected reason.  Moments were I can tell Him that I am broken and sad and He is able to speak tenderly to me.  Moments that I tell Him that I know I can trust Him with all my moments to come.

Moments are so precious to me.  I pray that they are precious to you.

Live!

Recently my family and I visited the Wiminouch Wilderness.  We could see Pole Mountain behind us and the head waters of the Rio Grande before us.  I met a precious woman. She was in her 70s and she was staying in the same place we stayed.  She had visited the wilderness since 1983 on an annual basis with her husband.  As we looked around she began to point out mountain peaks that we should climb, all of them over 13,000 feet.  She shared with us that she had climbed the tallest one 10 times and her husband had been proud to say he had done it 13 times and the last time he climbed it, he was in his early 70s!  The more she talked, I knew that her husband was now gone.  She spoke of him with at sparkle in her eye and a hint of sadness in her voice.  She did finally tell us that he had passed away 3 years ago, but she continues to come here each year.  She had summitted that peak one more time in his honor, to place a memorial stone on the summit engraved with the words, “he communioned here with God.”  And as we parted ways, she was on her way to hike down to the head waters at dusk.  As we walked on our way, I was so impressed with her zeal for life, that they had lived and they had no regrets.

May we all pray that we would live…I mean really live and that we would have no regrets.  Our God is a God of adventure and our time with Him is a thrill.  I am praying that as we enter our 70s, we will have squeezed every ounce out of this life as an offering to our God…and have done it with a smile on our faces!

Sure reward

“The wicked man earns deceptive wages, be he who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.” Proverbs 11:18

This morning when I was thinking about my sweet young mom Bible study group, the precious women who serve with me in CHOSEN, and of you...an image came to my mind.  It was of you gardening.  And there was a beautiful garden all around you and the garden was one tended to by the body of Christ, not your garden alone.  There were large, healthy plants and flowers all around.  I saw you on your knees.  Working away, with joy on your face and in your hearts.  You weren’t tending the large, self-sufficient, fully grown plants.  Those plants take less hands-on care…you were tending to the tiniest, most fragile plants.  The plants that can be easily overlooked in the magnificence of the garden as a whole.  The plants that require more hands-on, deliberate and gentle attention.  The plants that need water daily.  The plants that need an attentive eye on them constantly to ensure weeds don’t creep in and over take them.  The plants that the gardener waits in anxious, anticipation to see them grow and blossom into the strong, beautiful and securely rooted creation God intended them to be.

I want you to know that the work you do for Christ is of the utmost importance.  That it is beautiful to Him and of eternal significance.  Whether you are folding laundry, checking homework, doctoring a wounded baby doll, dancing to Chris Tomlin with a giggling 4 year old, or reading God’s precious word to an 8 year old.  You are tending to the tiniest, most fragile plants in His garden.  He has placed them in beautiful, strong, chosen hands.  And those hands belong to some of my dearest friends.  Your righteousness will reap a sure reward!

I love you so and I love that we have the same sod under our fingernails!

 Have a blessed day! Candy
